“on the radio…”

MUSIC Flashbacks

March 9, 2017

“On The Radio” is my new page. There’s a radio station in Jakarta that plays all kinds of rock music, especially 80’s rock classics during “rock weekend”.  I don’t know about you, but I still think 80’s music is and will always be the best period of ROCK in history. It’s a highly debatable argument. I know, but not for me!!!

I will post mainly 80’s flashback videos based on the song I heard “on the radio” here in Jakarta, or anywhere in Indonesia. That doesn’t mean I won’t post from other eras, after all, this page is all about music flashbacks, right?

With that being said, I kick off the page with this video! It brings back many many memories.

How about you? What do you remember when you hear this song?

Flashback Friday!!! Aaaaand, I can’t believe I heard this song today…on the radio…in Jakarta. It surprises me. It shouldn’t! But it still does. First time I heard this song was in 1984.

I haven’t heard this song in a while. I believe I loved it more when Tragic Kingdom was released with No Doubt. Nonetheless, I love some of her solo career songs as well. But this one used to be one of my faves from her…

Today, I listened to a song by Linda Ronstadt. I became a fan of Linda Ronstadt when she made the duet song ” I Don’t Know Much” with Aaron Neville. I didn’t know who she was before this hit.

I wish I could sing like that…anyways, here she is with her version of “Tracks of my Tears”.

Today’s flashback brings back great memories of when I used to play volleyball and participated at the many volleyball tournaments (torneos de bolibol) in Ponce, Puerto Rico. Do you remember this song? Well, I heard it today!!!

I was in Bali, and I went for a run. I passed by one of the public beaches located outside the Grand Hyatt in Nusa Dua Beach, (by the water blow!), and I kid you not. This is the song I heard…made my day! Bananarama!!! Funny thing about it…it’s not summer yet.

I heard this song on the radio and it brought me back to 1986. We did a choreography for this song. I still remember the dance steps…”Easy Lover”

Isn’t it great to hear a song from POISON? I heard it today on 95.1fm on our way to Senayan City for some lunch. Used to love this group back when they were POISON. Remember them? With that said, here’s that song!

Everything is going back to normal now in Jakarta.  School started today as well in, I believe, all of the international schools in Jakarta, and we heard this song on that fabulous classic rock station I love so much…here it is.

This has been a short week due to another public holiday here in Jakarta. I think we have as many public holidays here in Jakarta as we do in Puerto Rico! Anyways, this song reminded me of how much I wanted to become a jazz dancer. I would try (I think every girl that liked Jazz and leg warmers) to do the choreography of this part in the movie while dancing to Irene Cara’s “What a feeling” song.

I heard the song “Always” and homecoming dance popped into my head. It was my freshman year in high school back in San Antonio, TX. I never liked the song, but now that I heard the song as an adult, it resonates differently, naturally.

Another rainy day in Jakarta, (it’s monsoon season…meh) and we were on our way to the doctor when this song started to play. My daughter commented…, “Is that a new song mami? I like it; can we get it?” I told her that song was over 25 years old. She contemplated on that. Didn’t respond. Then she said, “Never mind.” Kids these days. Well, back in the 90’s, this song was a major hit! Loved the video as well. So, here it is.

I’m in the car, and it played this song! I haven’t heard this song probably since the last time I saw the movie that made it famous because that’s how I remember this song…from the movie Bed of Roses.
