Tiramisu..my new addiction.

DELIZIOSO TIRAMESÚ

I just love extra cocoa powder on my slice of Tiramisu.

Originally named Tiramesú by his creator Roberto Linguanotto, Tiramisu is the dessert that will always remind me of “Sleepless in Seatle”, and what do you know? It happens to be one of my fave movies (hey, I’m a chick, whatta you expect?). BTW: Do you get the joke about the Tiramisu in the movie? I know, right? Just like the dessert!!! Anyways, I thought I would create my own version without insulting its original roots in the making. So, here we go.

The following ingredients needed for an 8X8 square glass pan are:

4 EGG YOLKS

1/2 CUP OF SUGAR

500 G OF MASCARPONE CHEESE (already in a chilled bowl)

4 CUPS OF STRONG COFFEE (ready to be used at room temperature)

100% COCOA POWDER

REAL VANILLA EXTRA

CRÈME ENTIÈRE (optional)

A PACKAGE OF LADYFINGERS

Let’s do this!

First, separate the eggs whites from the egg yolks. Take the egg yolks and pour them into a bowl. Add the sugar. Now, mix them together with a blender until the mixture of these two become fluffy, thick and a light yellowish color. NOTE: In between beatings, I added a teaspoon of Vanilla Extra to enhance the flavor.

Beat the egg yolks and sugar until it gets fluffy and thick. It will turn into a light yellowish color.

Next, take this mixture and pour a little bit to the Mascarpone Cheese bowl and start combining them together. Pour the rest and fold until all mixtures are well combined.

Here you see the yolk/sugar mixture combined with the Mascarpone Cheese.

Start assembling the ladyfingers or Savoiardi into an 8X8 square pan. If you really want this to be a Tiramisu, then use the ladyfingers and not some sponge cake or cookies because it won’t taste the same, I guarantee it.

First dip the ladyfingers, one by one, into the coffee. Do this quickly for it only takes 1-2 seconds for them to soak up the liquid. NOTE: I also added a teaspoon of Vanilla Extra to the coffee to enhance its flavor.

I had here about 4 cups of strong coffee that was already at room temperature. It’s better to have more than not enough! Afterwards, I covered them with cocoa powder, as seen below.

Next, pour 1/2 of the cream mixture into the pan to create a blanket over the ladyfingers. Dust it cocoa powder. This is how I did it…

Repeat the process again. Dip the ladyfingers, one by one, into the coffee. Assemble them. Then, pour the remainder cream to cover all the ladyfingers. Finish it with the cocoa powder. Here are my last steps of assembling the Tiramesú.

You must let it sit in the refrigerator for 10 hours at least before serving it. I prefer to serve it the following day.
This is my go-to Tiramisu recipe. It has been a winner with my family as well as with my friends!

To this recipe, you can add whipped crème entière.*

*Take about 1 cup of heavy cream. Beat it until it forms firm peaks. Then fold it in, together with the Mascarpone Cheese mixture. If you do this, you will end up with a more thick texture than the original recipe.

You can also use liquors such as Kahlúa, Grand Mernier, Cointreau or even Frangelico. Add about 6-8 tablespoons of the liquor of your choice to the coffee. Mind you; allow the Tiramisu to chill overnight so that the flavors are not too strong to the taste.

My daughter wanted chocolate syrup on top. It actually tastes great. I added chocolate shavings to mine!

I was listening to this song while preparing my experiment…
